Vacation - Return of the Sweaty

This morning we headed to Mobile to visit the USS Alabama. J was not too excited about checking the battleship out, but after we were there admitted that it was pretty cool. The girls loved sitting in the gunnery chairs and pretending to take naps on the crewmen bunks.

On the way home we had lunch in Foley at Lambert's. The restaurant was founded in 1942 and was awesome. The dining room holds 450 guests. The drink glasses were served in 32 oz insulated mugs. The food was down home cooking and was delicious. Each entree is served with pass arounds served by roving servers. These included fried okra, fried potatoes, black-eyed peas (that were awesome and reminded Hubby of his grandma's) and rolls served with apple butter and sorghum. Now mind you, these pass arounds were on top of your entree and the 2 veggies you got to choose. I know....it was alot. The girls loved it. The restaurant is called 'the Home of Throwed Rolls'. You guessed it. Servers took piping hot rolls from the oven and threw them across the dining room to awaiting guests. We only saw a couple bounce off the floor. The servers would also occasionally come around with a pot of pass arounds and ask if the girls wanted more. If they said yes, they would take the tongs and pull out.....a raccoon (stuffed, of course). They would offer candy from a wooden box and when the girls reached in, a little mouse popped out. They would come with refills of soda and knock the entire pitcher all over our table (the pitcher was actually full of sorghum molasses so it didn't really spill). Balloons on the way out. Fun.

After rest time back at the guest apartment and a quick (and small) dinner, we headed for an evening on the beach. It was so much more pleasant as the temperature dropped. The girls loved the cooler air and the sand. They were braver in the water.....J even took a noodle and rode some waves. They buried each other (which made shower time quite sandy) and searched unsuccessfully for crabs.

The girls were de-sanded, showered and asleep by 8:30pm. They were wiped.

Hubby and I started watching The Wedding Crashers.

HP update: page 284.

Lamberts is fun isn't it? Don't feel like you need to eat for the rest of the week!! Rosella, Doug, Pawpa and I went to one between Springfield and Branson.

Lamberts is awesome! I've been there on two different family vacations - we love to go to Perdido Key Florida, which is not far from where you are. Such a fun area! Have a great time!
